“When I look around in my everyday life, presence and wonder are usually the forefronts of my wandering eyes. I see life as a miracle, I see nature as a miracle. I see us and earth as miracles. I believe a large part of my work is bridging that connection, reminding us (especially those of us who are marginalized, including the earth as she is) that we are miracles. That we are nature's wildest dreams, and that we have the power to be free and to free our earth if we listen and honor ourselves, and her continually and permanently.”

There is an intersection in the earth and my experience as a Black Queer Woman. We are both continually looked at from an extractive and exploitative view. We have both been reduced to property, reduced as non-sentient, non-conscious, reduced in hopes to take us out of our power.  I often use symbols of the earth in my work with marginalized communities to remind us of our collective liberation, and our power and beauty. Like the earth my body and my essence hold gifts that have been constantly undermined on a societal level, and exploited historically and presently. I believe if I can honor earth in my work when touching others through either tattooing, music, or painting, and at the same time honor our own journeys and grievances, we can continue to re-establish that bridge that has continually been destroyed by the oppressive forces at hand.

Trusting in the ancestral wisdom of honoring the earth in our sacred practices and expressions, and bringing her into how we interact, create and commune. All the gifts and knowledge we need are in us and in her. I turn to the earth and/or inside myself often first, for my answers and my questions. A large part of my practice is helping others do the same.”

Tiaret is a 23 year old queer, black, multimedia artists who often creates works that are compositionally based, whether she is composing music, or paintings or tattoos. Tiaret is inspired by mother earth, the cosmos, freedom, reclamation, and love. She often uses symbols such as circles, lines and botany to translate her experiences of deep connection to the earth, and herself into language that is more digestible. She is also deeply inspired by colors and textures to convey emotion and feeling. Her roots are from Mobile, Alabama, so liberation, and reclamation are huge values she has within her work. Often focusing on the liberation and reclamation of marginalized bodies and beings within her work.

She uses mediums. like sculpture, classical piano composition, painting, tattooing and video to capture and share with others her history, her perspectives of marginalization and freedom, and her connection to the earth; which often is connecting to earth/god/source/love/infinity and translating that experience into a more digestible language for experiencers to see. One of her core purposes she believes is to help bridge an understanding and connection to the earth on an anatomic level, with in hopes to connect more of us to our imagination, our earth, our love of self and community and our liberation. Highlighting the inter-woveness of Earths liberation and Marginalized communities liberation being on in the same.

Tiaret currently works and lives in Brooklyn, New York and Silver Spring Maryland, but often travels the world when she cans.
